Material takeoff (MTO)

Get Every Ton of Steel Right Before You Buy

A steel bid built on miscounted tonnage risks mill delays and change orders you absorb. We count and check every member, plate and bolt before release.

Where margin leaks

Steel Errors Cost Your Margin

Steel is the largest material cost on most structures. Every missed member is margin you absorb.

  • Underpriced Steel Bids

    Where margin leaks
Missed members and wrong weights win the job and lose the margin before steel arrives.
    What we fix
Every member, plate and bolt counted from drawings and models, so bids hold up.
  • Steel Overruns

    Where margin leaks
Short or excess orders mean mill delays, rush freight, scrap and an unhappy client.
    What we fix
Tonnage by size, grade and phase for accurate buying, so steel arrives when needed.
  • Missed Connections

    Where margin leaks
Plates, stiffeners and bolts left out of the count surface later as unrecoverable cost.
    What we fix
Connections, plates and hardware listed piece by piece, so nothing is missed in the price.
  • Slow Bid Turnaround

    Where margin leaks
Late takeoffs force rushed steel pricing or missed bid dates, and good work is lost.
    What we fix
Fast, checked MTOs that keep your estimators ahead of every bid deadline.

What clients ask first

Material Takeoff (MTO): Common Questions

Straight answers from our engineering team. If your question isn’t here, ask us directly.

Ask a senior engineer An engineer replies within one business day.
What does your steel material take-off include?

An itemized list of every steel member, plate, bolt and connection component, with sizes, grades, lengths and weights, for bids and buying.

Which standards do you follow, and who owns the final estimate?

AISC and ASTM for US projects; AS 4100 and AS/NZS 3679 for Australian projects. Bimgraphix does not certify quantities or take estimating liability; your estimator owns the final price. We answer for every quantity tracing back to a drawing, sheet or model element, with assumptions listed so your team can review them.

How do you make sure tonnage is right?

Every count is checked against the drawings, specifications and addenda, independently checked and senior-reviewed before release.

How are fees and schedules set, and can you handle large programs?

Fees and delivery dates are fixed in a written proposal from your scope, priced per project or per tonnage band, before any work starts. Large programs are released by area or package, with the team sized to your schedule. Revision rounds are agreed up front, and anything outside scope is quoted before we do it.

How do you protect our drawings, models and data?

We sign your NDA before any files are shared. Your drawings and take-offs remain your property, exchanged through your preferred platform or a secure link, and access is limited to the team on your project.
